EFT Tapping - Emotional Freedom Techniques

What is EFT Tapping?

EFT Tapping, known as EFT, which is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapping, is a combination of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. The name literally comes from tapping on certain meridian points of your body with your fingertips. EFT Tapping belongs to the field of Energy Medicine.

Tapping on certain meridian points of your body while focusing "on your problem" calms down the stress response of your brain. As a result, you release the blockages stored in your energy system and therefore it goes back to its natural healthy state. This means that your body and mind go back to a state without the "trauma", and from thereon you will act out of new knowledge, as you have literally rewired your brain.

EFT Tapping can help you with:

  • anxiety
  • sadness / grief
  • health issues
  • weight loss or weight gain
  • stress
  • any kind of trauma
  • feeling stuck in life
  • frustration
  • migraines or headaches
  • insomnia
  • aggression or anger issues
  • negative thoughts
  • panic attacks
  • autoimmune dissorders
  • performance improvement (Business or Sport)
  • food cravings

EFT Tapping Points

What are EFT Tapping Points?

In EFT Tapping if we talk about the basic EFT Tapping points, we are talking about 9 Meridian points. Meridians are the "nerve ends" that are connected to different organs and are thought of as areas where energy flows through. They are located from the top of your head to the side of your hand and each point relates to a different organ of your body. Although in the EFT Tapping we don't differentiate the points and just tap several times on each point to cover the whole "mind-body system".

Where to find the EFT Tapping points and how they are related to your body?

1. Top of head

This point can be found right in the middle of the head. It is known as the  "Hundred Meeting Points" Meridian as it helps with inner criticism, distraction and overthinking. Once the blockages are removed it allows you insight, intuition, focus and clarity.

2. Eyebrow

This point can be found at the beginning of the inside of the eyebrow. It is also known as the Bladder Meridian as it helps with trauma, sadness, impatience and frustration. Once the blockages are removed it allows you inner peace and emotional healing.

3. Side of eye

This point can be found on the side of the eye where the bone begins. It is also known as the Gall Bladder Meridian as it helps with rage, anger, resentment and fear of change. Once the blockages are removed it allows you understanding, clarity and compassion.

4. Under eye

This point can be found under the eye where the bone is. It is also known as the Stomach Meridian as it helps with anxiety, worry, fear and disappointment. Once the blockages are removed it allows you calmness, contentment and feeling save.

5. Under nose

This point can be found right in the middle between nose and mouth. It is also known as the Governing Meridian as it helps with shame, guilt, embarrassment and grief. Once the blockages are removed it allows you compassion, self-empowerment and self-acceptance.

6. Under mouth

This point can be found right in the middle between mouth and chin. It is also known as the Central Meridian as it helps with shame, embarrassment, confusion and uncertainty. Once the blockages are removed it allows you clarity, certainty and self-confidence.

7. Collarbone

This point can be found about 3 fingers under the collarbone. It is also known as the Kidney Meridian as it helps with general stress, feeling stuck, worry and indecision. Once the blockages are removed it allows you confidence, clarity and ease in moving forward.

8. Under arm

This point can be found where the bra stip goes along for woman. It is also known as the Spleen Meridian as it helps with guilt, hopelessness, insecurity and worry. Once the blockages are removed it allows you confidence, clarity and relaxation.

9. Side of hand

This point can be found at the fleshy point on the outside of the hand. It is also known as the reversal point or karate chop point. This point is very important, as it is the point where psychological reversal takes place. We always start tapping here and saying 3 times:  "Even though I have "this problem" I totally accept myself. We acknowledge what is happening with us at this moment.

Why are EFT Tapping sessions so effective?

The "things" that happen to us throughout life, we store in our energy system. By the age of 6, we have already stored thousands of events and memories in our system. If it is a bad event or memory then our energy flow gets disturbed, as we put this event in a "trauma capsule", and our body and mind literally remember the negative energy around this event and over time:

  • you experience some kind of anxiety
  • you are depressed
  • you are in pain
  • you might be overweight
  • you might have sleepless nights
  • you are dealing with trauma
  • you are struggling with performing in your career or sports
  • you have negative thoughts

or whatever you are experiencing ...

In the EFT Tapping sessions, we will clear the energy blockages around the challenge you face. We will clear them step by step, topic by topic. Once worked through them, you release the stored energy for a lifetime as you get to the root of the issue and your "mind-body system" goes back to its natural healthy state. Every single step you make is a great success as it means you are moving towards a life of peace, happiness and health.

There are over 100 clinical trials that prove EFT´s "evidence-based" practice and its efficacy.

What is the story behind EFT Tapping?

EFT comes from a technique called TFT (Thought Field Therapy), it is a fringe psychological treatment developed by an American psychologist named Roger Callahan. He worked with a patient he named "Mary" and her water phobia. He worked with her for 18 months with conventional therapies but her water phobia did not improve much.

One day he asked her to sit next to the pool, letting her feet hang in the pool, he suggested tapping the meridian under the eye which is connected to the stomach and Mary reports that the feeling of anxiety in her stomach disappeared. Checking 30 years later with Mary the fear of water never returned. Little science

had been there at this point in the 1980s.

In the early 1990s, Gary Craig who worked under Rogger Callahan at this point was eager to develop a simplified method which he then named EFT, which consists of one basic sequence. This is the sequence we now call EFT´s basic recipe. From there on EFT Tapping and the community around it started growing.
